Less than 2 years after award-winning D'Beat Band presented its maiden album, 'D'Beat Goes On', it has started work on the second. The winner of 2011 Star Quest is a story in what becomes of a 'band of circumstance' as it was formed during the competition.

According to the leader, Samuel Tochux, it is the recent death of his father that caused some delay in the work towards the second album. But in a chat with our correspondent on Tuesday, Tochux says D'Beat is also currently on a tour of the country on a performance project.

Saying that the six-man group is very intact, he notes that the nature of its background exerts some peculiar pressure on the band. For instance, he says, part of the challenges it faces is that half of its members are in school. Among such is Charity Abubi, who is a student of Mass Communication at Delta State University Abraka; Beauty Aghedo, studying Tourism at the National Open University of Nigeria and Justice Adigbo, a Computer Science student also at NOUN.

"At times, some of us may be writing exams when we have shows," Tochux, a Lagos-based sound engineer, says. "When this happens, other members try to cover up but whenever the situation really calls for it, we get substitutes."

He further concedes that despite the fact that D'Beat is making impact, it is only two-years-old in the industry. At the tender age, it yet has to compete with big names like 2face and D'Banj. Part of its consolation, however, is that it has a peculiar formation that many people find novel.

"In Nigeria we are the only group with three boys and three girls. That makes us particularly beautiful to watch. If you ask many people what they really like about us, they say the fact that we are three boys and three girls," Tochux notes.

But the peculiar formation also stirs the question: "Does the three boys, three girls equation suggest an easy route to in-band romance?" Tochux laughs at the insinuation here, making our correspondent ask if the members are not into relationships or probably contemplating marriage.

He says, "Marriage is a serious question. Don't forget that we came together during the competition and everyone had one relationship or the other before then. Well, who knows? One person might have some feeling for the other but we try to appreciate that this is business and we have to make it primary."
