Retired Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo has opened up about how his wife Amara once saved his life.
Kanu Nwankwo and his wife Amara Kanu have been married for 13 years now and have three beautiful children.
In a recent interview with UK DailyMail, he recounted how Amara gave him a better chance to life after she discovered that the sound of his heartbeat seemed wrong.
In her words: “His heartbeat sounded much louder than normal. I was listening to his chest and it sounded odd.”
He added, “She was saying I should go for a check-up so I took her advice.” Following her advice, and this led to the detection of a heart valve defect and eventually his life-saving open-heart surgery back in 1997.
Amara said: "It was the same faulty valve. It was like a ticking time bomb. It’s just one of those things we were lucky to find out.” She also helped nurse him back to health post-surgery.
Kanu concluded: “Now I know that being fit and strong doesn’t make your heart 100%.”
