American couple Donald and Vivian Hart, both 99 years old, just celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary.
Every couple that get married pray for their love to stand the test of time and one American couple can proudly boast that they have achieved this. That couple is Donald and Vivian Hart, both 99 years old, and they just celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 25.
The couple got married in June, 1937 and have been happily married since. They held their 80th anniversary ceremony at their assisted living facility in Michigan. Donald spontaneously sang Bing Crosby’s “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” at one point. He told ABC News:"I used to sing it quite a bit when we were going together. It was the song that came to mind on our anniversary."
The song “'When Your Hair Has Turned to Silver” by Perry Como played at their wedding back then. He said: “Now we fulfilled the song we've been singing. It seems to have come so suddenly."
When asked about their secret to a long lasting marriage, Donald said: “Make sure the relationship is honest. Try to do what's right in God's eyes. It's good to laugh together. Have fun with each other, but don't make jokes at the expense of the other.”
Vivian concluded: "Always be sure to put God first in your life. Be always willing to help and stay alert to your spouse. We have prayers every day together in the morning and the night. We don't keep our mind on our troubles.”
