The Indian state of Madya Pradesh recently took initiative and given 700 new brides with wooden bats to help them in case they become victims of domestic violence.

The Indian government gifted 700 brides with the bats at the mass wedding.

"There is no intent to provoke women or instigate them to violence but the bat is to prevent violence."

Each of the paddles is a message which reads in English: 'For beating drunkards' and 'Police won't intervene'. This move will also hopefully deter the men from abusive behaviour with and without the influence of alcohol.
