The Fulani Cultural Festival is a three-day held in Kirya town, Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The event was organised by the Kebbi state government in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce. It was attended by Fulani people from around West Africa: Nigeria, Niger and Benin Republic, Burkina Faso.
Also known as the Huttonga festival, it featured cultural dances and competitions. The categories included archery, fattening of animals, sheep and camel race, as well as decorations by Fulani women.
Winners include Malama Ige Kitiya for women room decoration, Aisha Aliyu came second. Gormi Dan Kolba won the bow and arrow competition while Mato Barade from Niger Republic won a car for first position in sheep racing.
The Huttonga is a celebration of the safe return of livestock from the southern part of the country and other areas. Kebbi pastorialists especially sheep rearers (Udawa) usually pass through many neighbouring countries in search of better grazing areas.
